Here's your chance to live in a beautiful, affordable, environmentally-advanced home,
With other people who share your commitment to making a difference in the world,
Learning from and supporting each other.
In the fall of 2008, Common Fire will be opening a new housing co-op in the historic Rondout district of Kingston, New York.
A large Victorian home built in 1890, the housing co-op will provide a gorgeous and inspiring home for a diverse group of people who in one way or another are committed to making a difference in the world -- to help them each be more effective and fulfilled in their lives and work. Even if you’ve never heard of housing co-ops or considered living with other people in the same home, this could be a wonderful opportunity for you.
We’re renovating the building to be extremely “green” while preserving all of the historic features. The building will be extremely energy and water efficient, be very healthy to live in, and use materials that were harvested sustainably – so much so that it is expected to outscore what is currently the “Greenest Buildings in the Eastern US” -- our first co-op in Tivoli! If you prefer to live in a beautiful country setting, there are also rooms available in the Tivoli co-op, across the river from Kingston.
We hope people will be able to move in by November 1. The folks living there will share the household expenses. Total monthly expenses per person will probably run between $580 and $810 for one person and between $460 and $560 for two people who want to share a room. That amount covers the room, food, water, gas, electric, and internet (not phone). The difference in cost depends mainly on the size of the room.
If you might be interested in living in the co-op, or just coming by to check it out, please read all the info on the Kingston Co-op on this website so you can be sure you know what you're signing up for! After that, definitely please give us a call or write to learn more:
