Retreats

Common Fire's intergenerational retreats for changemakers will be powerful places for individuals from diverse walks of life to renew their individual commitments and have space to view their work more holistically, support and challenge one another, and together discover more thoughtful approaches to addressing greater environmental, economic and social justice. Ultimately to be set in our future retreat center/community, much of the power of the retreats will be simply to offer participants the opportunity to have time to connect with the land, themselves, and the other inspiring people on their retreat. Until the retreat center is developed, Common Fire is thrilled to participate and support such retreats in conjunction with partner organizations like the Fellowship of Reconciliation, Be Present, and the Center for Whole Communities.

Youth and Young Adult Programs

Common Fire’s youth summer camps and trainings for young adults are our way of celebrating and empowering the hopes and dreams young people have for the world. Our intention is to bring together diverse youth from around the US and the world to learn and teach each other about issues facing the world today and ways of living and engaging in the world that help address those issues – while having fun and forging lasting friendships.

By offering camps and trainings at the Institute and overlapping them with our adult programs we aim to give youth an opportunity to get to know a broad range of inspiring adults and vice versa, recognizing the importance of intergenerational mutual-mentorship in creating viable change.

Over the next 2 years, Common Fire’s youth programs will continue to be collaborative efforts, run with partner organizations at facilities around the country, until we develop the land to have a more permanent camp setting with the retreat center formation. Upcoming retreats include:

  • Young Adult anti-oppression and nonviolence training in collaboration with the Nonviolent Youth Collective and One Common Unity. June 13-20, Abram’s Creek, West Virginia.
  • Next Generation training in collaboration with Center for Whole Communities, Ruckus Society and stone circles. August 13-20, Knoll Farm, Vermont.
